Police investigating the apparent homicide of a 60-year-old woman on Chicago’s Northwest Side have said they believe the victim may have been attacked in her home.
Jodi Owens was found dead by her 14-year-old daughter in her Forest Park home on Tuesday afternoon, apparently having been sexually assaulted, police said. According to NBC Chicago, the girl told police that she found her mother dead and bleeding from the mouth.
Police said that no suspect is in custody, but the area has been roped off as an active crime scene, and a motive for the crime has not been released.
After no suspects or persons of interest had been identified within 48 hours, detectives were alerted to a homicide cold case involving a woman killed in 2014 near a school in Forest Park. The third person of interest identified in that case, now 59, was taken into custody Tuesday. Police say that the two cases may be related, though police are not currently confirming any relationship between the woman and the man identified in the 2014 case.
